"The stylist’s job is to take a collection and edit it down to one idea that gives it character and a story. A designer lives with a collection for six months before a show, so they are too close to it to be able to do that. The stylist helps them see things differently. The designer is looking at the collection on a micro level, at the fit, the details and the construction. The stylist is looking at the macro level, at the style, and how the collection fits into the broader fashion spectrum."
The stylist is also responsible for casting the models, guiding the hair and makeup, figuring out who wears what and determining the line-up of outfits. “You want things to lead from one outfit to the next, so that nothing stands out.”
